OnePiece 1049 Kaido: The Epic Conclusion to the Wano Arc!

OnePiece 1049: Kaido - The Finale Has Arrived!

The finale of the Wano arc has arrived! In the final moments of chapter 1048, Sanji, Tama, and Luffy find themselves face-to-face with Kaido and his men, including one familiar figure that both Sanji and Luffy had given up on ever seeing again...but who could it be? The answer to this question and more will be revealed in the final chapter of this six-year arc in next week’s One Piece chapter 1049 Kaido! The End of the Bakufu's Shogun! One Piece manga fans won’t want to miss it!

From Luffy's perspective

Manga author Eiichiro Oda recently released One Piece chapter 1049 and it could well be one of my favorite chapters of his ever. Not only did we get a mind-blowing battle, but we also got some great insight into Luffy's mindset. If you haven't read it yet, let me briefly summarize what happened before getting into more detail on Luffy's perspective and thoughts. Kaido (one of the Yonko) had taken all of Luffy's allies from their stronghold in Totto Land and brought them with him to his lair on Zou.

From Zoro's perspective

Zoro didn't think that his words would have such an effect on Sanji, and he was beginning to regret what he said. He knew Sanji could handle himself in a fight, but he also knew that Sanji wasn't good at fighting with kids. In fact, one of their old crewmates (who were now just another one of those lost Nakama) had attempted something similar many years ago. To make matters worse, there are only 3 minutes left before Zoro has to leave for his upcoming fight... will he make it in time? Or will Sanji become more lost than ever?

From Sanji's perspective

Sanji glanced over his shoulder at Zoro and Robin, still gathering firewood for their improvised barbecue. Well, he mused silently, in all fairness I suppose it was more Zoro's idea than mine...but honestly, I have no regrets about that whatsoever. He watched as Robin broke out of a momentary pensive trance long enough to walk over and nudge a pile of logs into place before rejoining her musings. Once again Sanji felt that strange ripple pass through him. For a split second he thought he saw two separate scenes playing out; one in which Robin worked quietly alone while Zoro went off on his own to do something else, then another where she was breaking down her previous solitude and spending time with them both equally.

From Zou's perspective

(Naruto 672 Spoilers) Naruto 672 was a bit frustrating because it seemed like everything in Wano was wrapped up too quickly and there's nothing left for Rock. Then I thought about it, he just has to take down Big Mom, and then we'll be free to go home...but how is he going to do that? He didn't even beat one of her guardians yet. However, if Kaido (or an ally) doesn't save him soon, then Luffy's help will be desperately needed since Big Mom most likely won't play fair against Sanji and Pedro (and Brook). I guess it all depends on whether or not we will get Rock flashbacks for his fight with Germa 66 before the next chapter starts.

General Thoughts on the Ending and Time to Start Looking Forward

Well, after several weeks of wondering what could have been (and I say that because at one point it was speculated that we would see a time skip before and after Luffy’s battle with Katakuri), we now know what’s going to happen. To me, it was something akin to when everything in your life seems like they are falling apart in front of you, and then...boom everything goes back together again. It wasn’t spectacular by any means but it worked out alright. As for Luffy, he is still doing his pirate-y thing even though he has no crew and isn’t leading anything but himself—which I found kind of interesting.
